Sydney's The Place To Be

Friday 24 September, 2004 (12:13PM GMT)

This time next week, the Web Essentials conference will be well underway in Sydney.

Having spoken to Russ Weakley, one of the organisers and the David Letterman of the web standards world, it sounds like the response has been great and it seems the event is going to be a sure-fire hit.

It isn't too late to sign up. If you're in or near the area and you haven't got a ticket yet, my advice is to do everything you can to get to it. "Hey boss, if you send me to this conference, I'll learn loads of stuff and our website will be a thousand times better..."

I even tried to convince myself that it was a sensible idea for me to fly around the other side of the world to go to it. In the end I failed. Damn.

I think I'm right in saying that it's the first web standards-specific conference. I'm sure it won't be the last.

Hehee, the 'David Lettermen of the web standards world' - funny stuff.
You're not alone Patrick, I've failed to secure a ticket as well - except I'm only 1000km's from Sydney, so I can't use the distance excuse. : (
I'm sure it will be awesome and I know we'll hear all about it; which makes not going even more painful!

Russ is more like Larry King, except not as old.

Yes, in my experience at least, Russ does have Letterman's iconoclastic sense of humour, but he doesn't share his cocaine habit.

Yes, very exciting here in Sydney - all speakers arrived and happy at their hotels. Meeting up tonight at the Bondi Icebergs. All systems go and wic=sh you were all here!
